Library

History

The Library is named Sant Baba Pyara Singh Ji after the establishment of the Sant Baba Pyara Singh Study Foundation in 2009 at Jhar Sahib, Ludhiana. He was a very dear Gursikh of the Akhand Kirtani Jatha.


Mission

To provide free and equal access to information, knowledge, and ideas, promoting personal enrichment and lifelong learning.

Vision

Building an enthusiastic community of learners who share a love of reading and a thirst for knowledge.


Objectives

The Library strives to:

  1. Promote reading habits among the students.

  2. Broaden the learning skills of the students.

  3. Create a learner-friendly environment.

  4. Bridge the gap between learning and teaching.

  5. Recognize the different needs of users.

  6. Improve both physical and online learning skills.

  7. Assist and support the users.

  8. Develop and manage information resources.


Library – The Heart of the Institution

The library is not merely a storehouse of knowledge but also a temple where students and faculty build their professional careers and develop the virtues of life.

At present, the College Library houses a rich collection of 12,722+ books, including textbooks, reference books, general books, and religious books. The collection is well-classified and catalogued systematically. The library also subscribes to 4 journals, 13 magazines, and 4 daily newspapers.

For modernization, KOHA Integrated Library Management Software has been installed for automation.


Library Services

  1. Issue and Return – Lending of books to readers is the major public service provided by the library.

  2. Book Bank Facility – Facility for needy and deserving students for the entire session; textbooks must be returned after annual examinations.

  3. Reference Service – Provides quick factual information, e.g., location of books.

  4. Internet – The library is Wi-Fi enabled, with access for academic and research purposes.

  5. Reference Section – Includes dictionaries, encyclopaedias, thesauri, travel guides, competitive books, maps, gazetteers, collected works, and yearbooks.

  6. Periodical Section – Contains magazines and newspapers in English and Punjabi.

  7. Property Counter – For personal belongings (bags, books, etc.); valuables are discouraged.

  8. Display Board – Displays current information and updates.

  9. Stock Verification – Conducted annually at the end or beginning of the academic year.

  10. Weeding Policy – Obsolete books are weeded out with the Principal’s approval.

  11. Newspaper Clipping Service – Provides relevant clippings to all users.

  12. Current Awareness Service (CAS) – Includes new title displays, lists of new additions, and newspaper clippings.

  13. Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) – Customized information service for teachers, students, and researchers as per their requirements.


Library Activities

  • Book and Resource Exhibitions – Display of books on different subjects to encourage exploration of new topics.

  • Library Orientations – Familiarizing students with library resources, services, and policies.

  • Book Review Competition – Encourages analytical reading and critical thinking.

  • Book Cover Making – Students design covers based on themes or favourite books.

  • Poster Making Competition – Students create posters on library themes such as reading, learning, or library services.


Important Instructions

  • Library ID card is compulsory for issuing books.

  • Books are issued for 14 days only.

  • A fine of ₹5 per day will be charged for late returns.

  • Loss or damage of a book must be replaced within one week.

  • Strict silence and discipline must be maintained.

  • Eating in the library is prohibited.

  • Members must keep the library neat and clean.

  • Tearing, marking, or folding pages of books is strictly prohibited; offenders will be fined.

  • Books should be left on tables after use rather than being misplaced on shelves.

  • Mobile phone usage inside the library is strictly prohibited.

  • Periodicals, newspapers, and reference books are not issued.

  • Newspapers should be folded properly and kept back in their designated place.

  • Loss of an ID card must be reported to the Principal through the Librarian; a duplicate card will be issued after verification and payment of charges. 

  • LIBRARY WORKING HOURS
    Monday to Saturday –
    Working Hours : 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
    The Library is closed on Sundays and all public holidays.

    SPECIAL FEATURES
    Standard textbooks and books by well known authors are stocked and every effort is made
    to obtain all titles recommended by the faculty.

    BY ;
    • Selecting , acquiring , organizing , maintaining and making accessible a collection of
       books.
    • Materials that will support the educational research and public service programmes
       of both the students and the faculty.
    • Responding to the varying needs of the academic community by involving the faculty
       the students and the administration in the development and periodic assessment of
       the library services and resources .
    • Providing an environment conducive to the optimum use of library materials and an
      appropriate schedule of hours of service and professional assistance.
    • Participating in overall computing resources plan and providing for free library
      utilization of automation technology , physical facilities and equipment adequate to
      process.

    FUTURE PLANS

    • Implementation of RFID ( Radio Frequency Identification)
    • Compiling and displaying of students and teachers attendance in library.
    • To strengthen the orientation program .
    • A feedback from students and staff through detailed questionnaire at the end of
      every year.
    • Creation of digital article Repositories .
