Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for Women, Jhar Sahib, Ludhiana, boasts a comprehensive sports infrastructure that underscores its commitment to holistic student development. The college’s sports academy is equipped with a full-fledged gymnasium and well-maintained playfields for various sports, including football, hockey, cricket, baseball, and kho-kho. Additionally, there are dedicated courts for basketball, volleyball, and badminton.
Over its 47-year history, the college has achieved remarkable success in sports, securing the Panjab University General Efficiency All-Round Championship 37 times. This consistent excellence reflects the institution’s dedication to nurturing athletic talent.
To support outstanding athletes, the college offers special facilities, including free medical aid, complimentary sports kits, and cash scholarships. Athletes are also eligible to apply for scholarships awarded by the National Institute of
Sports (NIS) Patiala and the Sports Department of the Chandigarh Administration. Eligibility for sports-related admissions requires a minimum standing at the state level, such as securing first, second, or third positions in inter-school or open championships. Maintaining good academic performance and discipline is essential, as any lapse may lead to the withdrawal of sports facilities and incentives. The college’s robust sports program not only fosters physical fitness but also instills values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance among students.
